More people than ever are applying for those six-figure salary jobs. In other words, it’s getting harder and harder to land just an interview for positions that offer life-changing financial rewards.
But which companies receive the most and least daily applications for America’s highest-paying jobs?
The answer to that question can be found in this latest study by career.io, which used data from LinkedIn to design several charts illustrating the average number of daily applications for top roles across the U.S. job market.
Let’s take a closer look.
The company with the most competitive high-paying jobs
Competition for the high-paying jobs at streaming giant Netflix isn’t just competitive. Instead, it’s super (super) competitive. The data analyzed by the career.io team shows that over 116 people apply for six-figure salary positions at Netflix every single day. That’s almost double any other application rate in this part of the U.S.
Why does everyone want to work at Netflix?
It’s regarded as one of the best and most modern working environments, where employees have complete autonomy over how and even when they work. For example, there are no set contract hours. Work is task-based, and success is judged on output rather than the number of hours grinded out every week.
Companies with the least competition for high-paying jobs
Working in the commercial vehicle industry might not seem as glamorous or exciting as a job in big tech. However, you’ll have a much better chance of actually landing a job in this sector.
That’s because all three of the companies with the least competition for jobs with the highest salaries are in the commercial vehicle sector. Of these, Rush Enterprises has the lowest daily applicants for high-paying positions. On average, it receives just 0.03 applicants per day per six-figure job. So if you have the right skills on that CV, you’re pretty much guaranteed at least an interview.
The Most and Least Competitive Tech Companies for the Top Jobs
The cloud-based software company Salesforce is another big tech player that attracts a high number of daily applicants. Just under 25 (24.88) people send in CVs for the best-paying jobs at Salesforce every day. That’s some serious competition.
It’s a lot easier to stand out when applying for jobs at Adobe and computer tech firm Oracle, which both receive fewer than 5-6 applicants per day for the jobs analyzed in this study.
There’s also a surprising lack of competition for Google’s most sought-after jobs. When this tech behemoth posts a high-paying job, it receives under five applications per day.
But isn’t Google one of the best places to work in the world?
Not for everyone.
“I’ve never hated a job so much,” reads one Glassdoor review left by a Google software engineer. “Everyone is trying to climb the ladder or completely checked out. I can’t wait to leave.”
Competition for high-salary jobs in retail
CDW is the most competitive company in retail for bumper pay deals. The recruitment teams at this IT retailer have to sort through 60 CVs each day for every job posted.
There’s less competition for the top jobs at Costco. Still, your CV will be competing against the other 9 sent on the same day.
There’s little chance that any CV sent to AutoZone will get lost in the (metaphorical) pile. This is one of the four retailers in this last section of the study that receives under one application per day.
